We're extremely proud of our original, colourful designs. But creativity counts for nothing if it's not matched with exacting standards of craftsmanship and quality.
We print-tested countless different fabrics in order to find one that does full justice to co-founder Peter's stunning photographic artwork. The results were indisputable: printing on polyester produces the most vivid colours.
Our Supernova Collection therefore uses a poly-elastane fabric (96% Polyester, 4% Elastane). But this isn't any old polyester; we've spun and finished the fibres to give an incredible softness. With the addition of a little bit of elastane to provide stretch and form, the result is a range that feels as good as it looks.
As our Midnight Collection features printed waistbands rather than fabrics, this meant finding a different fabric that could take and retain black dye. Our search eventually led us to a cotton-modal blend (40% cotton/40% modal/10% elastane). Modal is a natural fabric made from beechwood fibres, and blending it with cotton results in a breathable fabric which feels silky-soft on the skin yet is hard-wearing and colourfast, even after frequent washing.
In a small factory near the city of Guimarães in north Portugal, there is a maelstrom of activity as hundreds of knitting machines whirl away.
We spent months working with this family-owned business to perfect the black jacquard waistbands that we use in the Supernova Collection; the result is a waistband that combines softness, stretch and durability.
This factory also produces the stunning multi-coloured waistbands that we use in the Midnight Collection; we use a sublimation technique to print co-founder Peter's photographic artwork directly onto the waistband elastic.
This is cutting-edge stuff and illustrates how our innovative approach to men's underwear doesn't stop with our designs - it extends to every part of the production process.
Once the fabrics and waistbands are ready, they travel a couple of kilometres to a light, clean and airy factory owned by Ana & Paulo - a wonderful couple who share our refusal to compromise on quality and our belief that decent working conditions result in a better product.
Their team of highly-skilled tailors sews everything together using double needles - this results in smooth, flat seams that not only look great but also eliminate chafing.
Finally, we sew a microsilk patch embroidered with the Bocka Bocka name across the back of the waistband - this serves as our guarantee of colour and originality.
Our obsession with quality and craftsmanship doesn't stop at the factory gates; we're confident that you've never seen men's underwear so elegantly packaged.
But our packaging's environmental impact is just as important. We don't use any plastic in our packaging. None. Nada. Only paper & cardboard, which are both recyclable.
